How are high school sports teams classified?

Ive always wondered, what classifies different high school sports teams such as a 5A girls soccer, but then a 3A for football? how do they classify different schools and different sports teams for high school? and why?

1. The classification is different for each sport, wrestling can be in 5A but the football can be in 4A.
2. the uil uses the population of each schools in the district. my high school while 5a was the smallest 5a in our district............. the number is set by the total number of schools need for each classification
